So we had another play today, rather than trying to adjust the length of the pushrod between the master and servo,we just slotted a couple of washers in between, still seizing the fronts up,really fed up now,
Harvey, if its like you said, contaminated brake fluid swelling the seals, does that mean getting the front brake calipers rebuilt again ? Cheers Paul.

the master cylinder seals has swollen, there is two types of servo fitted to the carina think it depends which plant they were assembled at,Asco and Bendix I think could it be the dimensions in your manual for setting pushrod is for one type and the other differs?

Harvey, yes it could be that, but we had a second opinion the other night from a good friend, he seems to think the freeplay between the pedal and the servo is good, hence why we had a tweek on the engine bay side between servo and master, as a last ditch effort, ive bought a new set of pads, as the ones on it have been cooked to death about 4 times now, probly wont cure it, but as you have said, this set up is so simple, how is it so hard to sort out ? cheers again paul.

so we still haven't got this thing sorted out looks like were going to pull the pedal box out, bin the servo and master cylinder, buy a pair of brake master cylinders and make a bias pedal box. a bit drastic maybe, but dunno what else to do, really need to do something with the steering aswell, as I was looking at it the other day, and noticed that new rubber coupling we fitted looks perished already rack and pinion is on the cards for sure, will post progress as it happens, but its gonna be slow more soon cheers.

just a little update, got the brakes bled today, got a nice firm pedal, need to try it out but we have removed the new steering coupling as it is perished already, does anyone have any ideas as to an alternative, been looking on ebay and you can get them for a vw beetle, made from uprated material not rubber, dunno if the bolt spacings will be the same though cheers.

cheers Harvey, we took the one off the car and had a measure up, and found an uprated one from a Talbot sunbeam, its not made from rubber, its the same stuff they make uprated suspension bushes out of, will let you know how it goes if it fits cheers.
