Hi,
Since awakening my Supra from it's 12 year slumber (2003 - 2015) its been recommissioned for the road but is currently used sparingly... one reason being I wanted to get a new Cam Belt put on it and the other being a fear of losing a tyre... as I can no longer find any 225/60/14's save for some Bridgestone ones (£134 each) with the white sidewall lettering (would have to go on the inside for me) which are SR rather than HR rated and I'm still running that by the insurers... Anyway... got the Cam Belt done earlier this week and I let my Toyota main dealer do it as they offered as good an introductory price as that offered by my usual garage and they seemed quite keen to see the car too. They also gave it a 'Safety Check' and hilighted a couple of issues which need taking care of. We are considering a sympathetic restoration in the near future to get it back to its glory days...
Whilst driving the 30 or so miles to the dealer up the M6 I became aware that even though the speedo showed 70mph I didn't feel like I was travelling that quickly and indeed a quick check on the way back home the following day using the GPS on the mobile and Sat Nav it appears that at most speeds from 20 up to 70 the digital speedo is pretty much reading 10% under speed so at 70mph I was travelling (on both other devices) at 63mph and so it was on down the scale. Whilst this in the right direction e.g. reading over speed on the speedo so I will never be inadvertently speeding, I was wondering if with the likelihood that I am at some point going to have to fit new larger wheels (Pity as I have a shiny new set of 14" alloys just waiting for tyres) if in doing so I could get somewhere closer to making the speedo a little more accurate. Thus If anyone cn give advice on the following questions I would be most grateful
1. Is it possible there may be a fault with the speedo... I have read that on some modern day cars with electronic speedos that there are some things which can affect their accuracy. I am unsure if the digital dash in the Supra is all electronic? (I know legally speaking it is allowed for it to be 10% out).
2. Has anyone fitted larger wheels to an MA61 as it appears from talking to a worker at a local alloys and tyres dealer that they are a bit of an odd size... something about the 'offset' ??
3. Is there anywhere that is a go to place for spares for the MA61 as when talking to guys at the main dealer about the restoration plans, they reckon some parts may be difficult to source now... they had to get the Cambelt from Belgium apparently?
Any info would be most appreciated
Thanks in advance
