The club has the "Toyota production frame Manual" listing vin/chassis nos from late 60's through to early 80's.We can tell you the build month of your Toyota as long as it was originally destined for european market.
I've noticed one of the anti-roll bar rubbers has almost disappeared on my Hiace 1980 Rio. I'm not sure how to trace the right replacement - looking on-line, all rubbers and bushes for the Hiace indicate that they don't match my model, but searching for my model gets me nowhere. My nearest motor factors wants my VIN number, but then tells me it must be a foreign import because it doesn't have enough characters. Is this simply because the software being used only runs from when 17 character VIN numbers were standardised in 1981? I can hardly match up with the old rubber if there is hardly anything of it left.
My Hiace Rio is shown on my V5 as first registration 04/08/1980, but since it was converted to a Rio by Motorhomes International in Isle of Man when new, I presume the production date was quite a bit earlier. I have not had any success trying to source any parts when using the VIN number - RH20V00081199. Does this indicate anything other than its a RH20 model? Is this in the clubs "Toyota production frame Manual"?
The identity plate says its model is RH20V-URE - this hasn't helped.
Re. the diesel engine - the plate says its a 12R 1587 cc but I was told it was changed to 2188cc L diesel I4 by the first owner soon after using it - I have no evidence to confirm this. I've looked all around on the engine and I haven't found an engine number on a plate. Could it be hidden under some fitting / pipe / wires? Any suggestions where I should look?
