Well the 22gt is at the repairers and printshop and is currently on the spit having plenty of welding done . The aim is to make the shell perfect and therefore all signs of rot are being removed , just look at the photos to show the quality of work and repairs being undertaken.

The recent previous owner of this Celica JKC 873P would now like to add a few words - despite having been involved with the old car world, first with Rileys and later Toyotas, for over 40 years, he has never taken it too seriously and asks that folk who maybe do, should not be offended by some of his light hearted comments.
I'm sure we are all amazed at the detail and expertise that Bob uses in his restorations. Especially for me whose mechanical ability just about extends to changing a sparking plug. And the only reason I learnt that, was when former Club member Raymond Scott who had serviced for the Toyota Team Europe Rally Team in 1977, helped me to set up the 2T-G engines in JKC and also my TA40 race Celica. He would only start work on condition the NGK plugs were removed, thrown in the bin and replaced by Nippon Denso - he reasoned that as the rest of the ignition system was ND the plugs should be also.
I see Bob's comments on a "nice shell but had a hard life." Indeed it did some mildly competitive Classic rallies 2000 - 2010 and I reckon that would have pleased the wee men at the Takaoka plant in Japan, who built it in October 1974 and would have liked to see a GT doing what they designed it to do. Especially its outright win on an icy and snowy UAC Boxing day Rally 2001. The slippy diff LSD they fitted and my budget Kwik Fit narrower, but correct 175 tyres getting grip where others didn't.(TEC Topics Spring 2002.) A guy in a hot 22B Scooby didn't see the funny side of it at all.
The shell looks fantastic on Bob's spit - an incredible amount of detail, work and effort, although I've had some comments on the newly attached type, wheel arches. Another member commenting that the original wheel arch repair kits with flat edges, we fitted early nineties were still visible in an earlier pic - again correct for 1974 build. In fact I reckon the cars "hardest life" use was last July, the day it left me to go to the new owner in Weston Super Mare. The original plan to go by transporter changed to driving it back. Apart from a few short maintenance runs the car had been in store for some years but I advised Big Duncan the driver, even though a long journey, it should make it OK, if he eased along at say 50/55 mph in 5th gear. With his sat nav plugged into the cigar lighter - very high tech -the old girl left Belfast at 9.30 am and a big surprise then to get a telephone call next morning to say he made W S Mare before mid night - around 400 road miles later, almost non stop and 3 hours on the ferry - 65/70 mph down to Dublin and increasing to 80/85 in the dark for the last 100 miles on the M5 past Bristol - never did that in my time! So while I see Bob plans an complete engine re build, unless Duncan's high speed dash did it something nasty, the old unit should be strong enough.
On the subject of engines I see the new owner also plans some other up grades from GT spec, like leather upholstery. Just thinking, if Bob can work his magic on the old 2T-G unit, maybe we can lend it to Tommi Makinen and his Toyota Gazoo Racing Team for the new Yaris they are entering for Toyotas return to the World Rally Championship. Look out for it starting in Monte Carlo next week. Remember guys, mostly only joking and good luck to Bob and the car.
