Hi, What is the best method of restoring the external finish on oxidize engine components? I want to keep the original parts where I can. Maybe I need to replace Hose clips etc ? Mk3 7M GE 1986 has spent much of it's life in storage, but is currently running with no obvious issues, MOT , serviced , timing belt done etc. Thanks Attachments:

Probably alloy wheel cleaner would do the trick, perhaps worth looking on a valeting/ detailing forum to see what those guys use, either that its a small toothbrush size wirebrush and wire wool, which may result in a few finger abrasions on the sharp edges

Thanks for your reply. Most bolts, hose clips have surface rust, the alloy components have clearly oxidized and the cylinder head covers have flaking paint. So I am considering replacing bolts and clips if they are beyond detailing and taking the alloy units out for a good scrub. The cylinder head covers need their surfaces restored I think. A strip down job for later I think. all these components are original 1986 including the HT-leads etc (which a squirrel has clearly nibbled the top of one ).
