Just puchased another project. 1983 P series Supra. Good body and interior, just has a seized motor. I will post some pics when it arrives at my place. Has original mags, good tyres, good interior good paint negligable rust. A good starting point for the 7mgte I have in the back of my shed. Cant go wrong for $800 au Found one pic from the guy who was selling it

I have decide to not go ahead with the 7mgte and go in the other direction and fit a 1UZFE as they are quite common over here and very reliable and easy to engineer. Over the next few months I will be stripping the car, tidying the engine bay and possibly repainting it in something a bit more eye catching. Once thats done the search will be on for a decent "celsior" or similar half cut. I want to keep the car auto as it will be a cruiser and autos are easier to get hold of. I will try and post progress pics but this will be a long term project as I stll have my RA28 to maintain and work commitments takes me away 2 weeks out of every month.

The Toyota V8 is a great engine choice, i look forward to updates as the project progresses , although others have done it in the past and it seems to need lots of expensive parts, manifolds, bell housing to fit manual box etc.

I have thought about going manual and you are right, parts are expensive. So at this stage I think a auto but tightened up and possibly manualised will be my box of choice. managed to get a replacement genuine steering wheel and some chrome trim pieces that were missing for the poultry cost of $30. I have slowly been working my way through my workshop to sell off unwanted motors and parts. This is to make room to fit the supra in. Once I have room I can seriously start. I have trawled the web for the best info on the conversion and am quite suprised at how easy this should be. Engine mounts to suit are available(custom made) and also exhaust headers. The celsior front cut has most of everything I will need. At the moment I am making enquiries as to the availability and cost of a front cut. I will post some more pics when my wife returns from holidays with the camera

The sound of a V8 in a Supra is just pure sex to the ear ;D

There is a guy here in West Australia with a Ma61 who is just about finished installing a 1UZ in his car, it is currently going thru engineering for certification. he has gone away from the standard and fitted it with individual throttle bodies and a non standard ECU. He is a member of Toymods and you can find his ride thread there. I think thats the inspiration I need. I have started purchasing some parts. I have had to sell some precious spares left over from the RA28 to fund this but at the end of the day I will have my RA28 unmolested for car shows and a Supra for playing. Cheers Dave

Cant believe its been so long since I purchased this project. Its been sitting in my workshop like forever.Well I have finaly got hold of a toyota celsior to do the engine conversion. I have the engine mounts as well now, all cad designed and ready to be fitted. It seems such a shame to wreck this celsior as it has everything that opens and shuts electrical wise, seats, headrests sunroof, and is in extremely good nick apart from a little hail damage. Cant believe Im going to part it for the engine swap. Paperwork goes into the engineer next week for approval. Soon as I get some time off work it all starts.

The Toyota Celsior is re-badged as a Lexus LS400 in the UK, and can also be purchased very cheaply, so don't feel bad about stripping down a nice old car, see it as recycling
