Hi Paul, I would have thought Celica ST Calipers from the same era should be a straight at fit as they shared the same engine and box and I think even suspension components etc

so ive been doin some playing about, and I think the calipers are ok, so ive turned my attention back to the mastercylinder, just pulled it to bits again(im getting good, rekon I could do it blindfolded now) and there are signs of corrosion inside that I never noticed before, so im on the lookout for another master cylinder. i'll stick an add up in the wanted section im gonna get this bloody car working this year, im sick of it stuck goin nowhere cheers

well its been a while, have not touched the car for ages as I was a bit pissed off with it, the new rubber kit has been fitted, we then bled the brakes (again) and today I took it for an mot. glad to say it passed, its only done 40 odd miles since the last one, we have driven it a little today and so far so good, would still like to do a rack and pinion conversion as the steering is a bit vague, theres a few jobs to do, but at least we can use it now(hopefully) will keep this thread updated cheers to all those with advice/parts suppliers and encouragement

Good result on the MOT,im sure theres a good few celica boys have converted there TA22's to rack and pinion, happy internet searching as to what fits,I would assume an AE86 rack would be an option

just a small update, weve had a couple of short journeys, but it still got its brakes seizing on problem on the front, so just to recap its had all new rubber hoses, refurbished front calipers, new discs, new rear wheel cylinders and half of the metal brake pipes replaced and the master cylinder has been re rubbered twice with 2 different kits, we have tried adjusting the pushrod length into the back of the servo/mastercylinder between the pedal and the servo and master which makes no difference. wish we had left it in the barn, any suggestions before I torch the fecker cheers.

Contaminated brake fluid out an old container, reason I say this was a guy at work had a MK2 MR2 and front brakes did the same , upshot after lots of head scratching and troubleshooting, was what he thought was brake fluid was some type of hydraulic oil that looked very similar to brake fluid had been put in the master cylinder reservoir and caused the seals to swell, a very long shot I know but its so simple a system what can go wrong with it, keep us posted

cheers for the replys guys Harvey, I'm pretty sure its not the brake fluid, all new from the same gallon can since we started bob, 1 what does the compensation valve look like ? front pipes go into a t piece that looks like a half moon shape. 2 yes, when there seized, if you crack the nipple they free off. 3 we have adjusted the brake pedal height as per Haynes manual measurement. 4 cant sell it bob, it owes us a fortune now, i'll retro fit another braking system if I really have too cheers paul.

Some Toyota's have a valve in the engine bay but on reflection your car is too early. To my mind if you crack a nipple open and it frees off its looking toward master cylinder . .... Have you blown the brake lines out with an air line just in case any crap is lodge in the lines. Flexible brakes hose can collapse but I know you done them . .....I know you probable done all this so I'm not helping much Are you now thinking about a custom pedal box from places like Demon Tweeks? Brake proportion value but not on early cars.. img.justparts.com/eImage/16aee665-4b44-477a-b8ce-d3360bd54cc2.JPG

bob, ive walked away from it again, would be nice if I had another master to try on it, just to see if it makes a difference, I'm a thingy cos there was one on ebay a while back, but I dismissed it as it looked as crusty as the one we have no it has not got one of those valves on it, cheers for that, leave it with me for a bit, i'll keep you posted cheers
