The picture attached is from the dec 1980 front cover of Custom Car Magazine. A few months ago got talking about Toyotas at work and low and behold this chap says 'guess what i;ve got stored in one of my barns.' Yes the very same truck part restored, and unused since the brakes ceased on and ready for a refurb ( darn't tell Tony cause its only near Retford not far from Lincoln) He won't sell it YET but has given me first refusal. I copied the magazine artical and verifed the reg and condition from some photoes he showed me of it.will put the 3-4 pages on to read if anyone is interested

Good find buddy. Your OK, I'm too stuffed out with motors as is, and my 85 Turbo diesel LS120 Crown estate import is the nearest I will get to a truck (unless ever find a late sixties Crown 'ute' pickup!) . My brother on the other hand once had close on 7-10 (all at once ) original Mitsubishi 'D50' 2wd pickups, around 78T to 83Y reg, before they all turned into dust. That boy was way ahead of his time, now everyone drives one! He is considering a purchase of a custom LPG hilux 4x4 1990 right now, black. I reckon there's zillions of ex-customised eighties Hilux's out there, all in poor condition and worth nowt now, unfortunately. I would think condition is the main factor, once they start to rot they're gone, however fancy the paint etc. Let us know how your investigations proceed.

The only thing going for this one is that it has a traceable history , appears reasonably solid and the customising was well documented chopped body, roll bars, lights winch , fancy wheels, and period seats etc mainly blagged by the custom car editorial team.
The guy who now owns it is into military vehicles ( anorak is in camuflage as in prefers tracks to tyres), all you would need for a swap would be a chieftan tank or similar.
