Will perhaps contact you in the near future re: availability of the clips, screen surrounds and rubbers. All available 20 years ago but may well have changed! Yes the GT screen rubbers were different to the ST Denis, I got my GT spec screen rubber from the USA for $60 which I thought was a bargain. Front screen rubbers are the same for RA24/29 GT's. I have a set of trim clips which I sourced from a screen replacement business for a few beers. They had had them sat in a box for years and were suprised anyone still wanted to use them. Toyota still have them but price was ridiculous. I persist with the original screen surrounds. With a bit of work they still look good and can be made to fit. If you have rust bubbles round the screen I would get them fixed yesterday. I can understand holding back knowing that what you can see is only the tip of the iceberg.

Thanks Mike and Nick. No doubt I will ask for your expert advice when I do start - I see Mike reckons that it should be sooner than later, but it is cold in the garage just now!

Have done some work over the xmas holidays. Bore block out to 89mm. Instal some old TOSCO (Toyota Sports Corner before TRD established) 89mm 11.5 CR pistons. Pistons set up with higher wrist pin for longer stroke 3T crank. Engine now 1940cc. 89mm piston on left, standard 9.8 CR 85mm piston on right. Removed the small valve head. Put in an 88261 head with extensive porting, port match, big valves, twin valve springs, Kent L14 spec cam grind. Installed oil catch can. Replaced Dellorto DHLA 40's with Weber 45 DCOE 9's. Set up a revised cable throttle with parts from a TA40GT. Made up some 8mm plug leads. Shimmed and slotted the brake master cylinder mount to clear the air filter socks.

Car goes really well once you get over 5k rpm but your then kind of limited by legal road speeds. It drinks like a fish doing it too. The open diff struggles with the extra power. You can light up the inside wheel in 1st, 2nd and 3rd if you really give it heaps. Not all GT's were born equal - note the diff code: Anyway there is always an answer (on the left): The lsd makes the .car much more balanced. You have to force the car out of shape now to get any wheel spin.

Thanks for that Mike - fantastic detail on your car. Genuine original TA 22GT''s now very rare in the UK, with some conversions and replicas about. Two known cars are mine 216585 and Harveys earlier 208765 both correct code TA22R-MQ-YY. Colours 338 copper metallic and 023 white respectively, the only two colours for cars officially sold here, by Toyota (GB) Ltd. I always thought not the most exciting choice for the then, top of the range Celica. Re: diffs, both cars on 5F1 .T293 which certainly on mine is not a very tight LSD. Re: your car I have colour 522 as non metallic yellow - was that the original colour?

Dinger,
This car is not a genuine GT. It had all the running gear, trim and most of the interior from a genuine 1973 GT but transferred into a 1974 ST shell.
The owner of the 73 GT decided to turn it into a drag car (tubbed rear end, firewall set back, dash fibreglassed in, sprayed it red (it was yellow) - then ran out of interest. Car sat for many years and rusted to the point that it was not recoverable given the body modifications.
I have updated a lot of the running gear given that the power and torque is now way more than a TA22 was designed to withstand but without resorting to major changes. Front suspension is TE71 (same as AE86 so lots of parts choice), gearbox is 22 spline T50 from a TA45 Celica, propshaft is from a TA60, ignition is electronic. All Toyota (except the carbs), a straight bolt in and stronger.

No posts for a long time. I got sick, ended up in hospital getting bits of me cut out. Recovered now so onwards and upwards. My car developed a noisey gearbox and replacing the gearbox lead onto other things. 3T-GTEU engine block: and Crankshaft: Eagle rods, Wiseco Pistons, etc - all nice and shiny. Bore block to give 89mm cylinders for 1940cc, hone, balance crank and pistons and rods, custom head gasket (90mm bores):

Uncle Bob, thanks for your concern. I'm all good now. I have been busy over the last couple of weeks. The only way to work out what parts you have and where they are is to put them together. Piston and rod: Nice beefy big end from a 3TGEU on the right in comparison to one from a 2TGEU: Oil pumps left to right 3TGTEU, 2TG TRD and standard 2TG. Went with the 2TG TRD: Inlet prior to porting: Inlet after porting:

There's more. Valves faced and lapped. 30 degree back cut on inlet: Get it timed: Throw it all back together: It works:
