What can Happen to a Tyre at High Speed

Even a good Tyre , with about 500 miles can blow at high speed.
As i found out.

I had one which did not blow, but certainly distort out of shape and wires showing and bits of rubber missing.

The strange thing was being a front tyre there was no obvious wheel shake or wobble, and vibration appeared to be from middle of car, initial thoughts was propshaft centre brg failure or universal joint failure.

Again it was a "good" allbeit ten year old tyre on its first sustained motorway high speed run, so worth checking out tyre age through manufacture date

In the tyre industry it is generally excepted a tyre should be replaced once its 10 years old, the rubber goes hard and can also crack between the tread block and around the side wall.
Alan was this an old tyre ? the date code can be found around the side wall, the number is recessed into the wall as a 3 or 4 digit number.
