Harvey it was bought new in Ireland late 1975 & the owner wanted the registration number 2500 so had to wait until that was issued to get it registered so was probably driving around with a FOR REG plate on it? they did that back in the day to make a car newer than it was! i have another Ta23 chassis number Ta23005578 so whats the build date of that one please 1st registered in Ireland as new 11th may 1976.

TA23-005578 is Jan 1976 , be interesting to see if Malcolms literature also states this too. I expect there will be a few anomolies in these old books, particularly at model introduction times, which probably would make no difference, as these data files were purely to be used in conjunction with parts catalogs for spares ordering.

Hi Bob
Your car wasn't registered aug 1975 as it is on a n plate so it was registered pre 1 aug 1975 , but needs to have been built pre jan 1st 1975 in japan. if you give me a chassis no i will tell you when it was built . if it is pre 1st jan 75 build , when you tax it in april when it is tax exempt , you need to send insurance . mot , copy of the log book, plus a letter from TEC confirming the date of build , then the DVLA will then mark it as historic - requiring no tax and will get a new log book confirming this. it is then exempt, saving you loads of wonga in the future cheers malcolm.

Hi Bob
It was built October 1974 the same time my bronze gt , so from 1st April you can tax it for free on the above procedure i have outlined above, so you get 12 months tax and can then run it on nice sunny days in the winter. malcolm.

Hi Sid
I think there is a gremlin in the categorisation of the models in the data i have , and it should read build date feb 1976 , my apologies - Malcolm.

strange one Malcolm as the owner did tell me he bought the celica end november 1975?? he may have just ordered it then time can play funny things on the memory? well it is a lifetime ago & we dont get free tax so dont really matter when it was built but would have been nice to know! we get vintage/vetern tax when the car turns 30 rolling yearly currently at €56 per year so not too bad as long as the powers that be leave that alone!

interesting, I think the data we have is not particularly reliable due to build dates not being critical 40 years ago and Japan is a long way from the Uk for the transfer of accurate information..
I have quite a bit of information but exactly how accurate it is debatable as Harvey has proved.
I have the original ta22/ta12/ra28 toyota parts manual but it only supplies a load of break chassis numbers for models when specifications changed so the bits in between are a bit grey and supported by other lists..
Some cars took ages to get onto UK roads , so leads times can be long particularly for crowns with their big engines and the fuel crisis.
My 22gt is quite clear its tax exempt from april so just need to get it on the road , the brown st appears to have missed out by a couple of weeks but was registered 6 months later.
I have a white 22gt which was registered 2 days away from the bronze gt in feb 75 but was built 2 months after it. Just goes to show.

Spoken to Harvey and ir appears the build data we both have is pretty consistent, it does mean my brown st has missed being tax exempt by 2 weeks , so will have to wait till april 2016 to go back on the road. it is therefore all hands to the pump to get the bronze gt back on the road for this summer , which will be the first time in 20 years , since i bought it. The shape of things to come currently slumbering in the garage. Attachments:

Is there any way I can get a copy of this 'Toyota Production Frame Reference Manual'? I'm trying to get some more information about my RT40 Corona.
