Hi folks,
Never wanted this to be my first post in an enthusiast forum but unfortunately, such is life!
I am selling my MA70 (MK3) Supra Turbo Automatic which I have owned for the last five years and thoroughly enjoyed, howevery wife and I have now moved on to a boat so the car is surplus to requirement.
So here goes - THE GOOD:
- UK Spec 3.0 Turbo with factory LSD
- Original UK supplied car on F (1989) plate.
- HPI Clear
-137,455 genuine miles corroborated by MOT history
- aside from the exhaust, the car is completely stock (I have run with the stainless steel back box that the previous owner fitted, but this definitely won't suit the purist taste!)
- In February 2020 the car was taken off the road and had all of the inner and outer sils and floor pan to the tunnel replaced with and it was then undersealed, the car has not covered many miles at all since then.
- Good service history (although NOT full) many invoices from Toyota main dealers including cambelt and head gasket replacements.
- No sign of any head gasket issues ever having been present, I believe one of the previous owners was very much on the ball and once the common head gasket issue was discovered, the car was taken straight in for a replacement whether it needed it or not.
- with the exception of the Air Con, everything works as it should - electric windows, cruise control, overdrive, ECT mode, adjustable drivers seat bolsters and lumbar etc I believe the air con system cannot be repaired so would need to be removed or just lived with(out) - personally I lived without it. The electric Aerial also works which is a bit of a rarity!
- the original radio is present, however there is a kenwood Bluetooth unit installed at the moment, doesn't look "too modern" in the car and I deliberately chose this unit because one of the backlight settings matches the stock clock lights perfectly and helps it blend in a bit.
- original floor mats are there but a bit tatty now and the boot blind/load cover is there and in perfect order.
The BAD.
- the car has a vacuum leak somewhere, it will start and run but unless the engine is being revved, it will cut out so really speaking isn't driveable as it is and would need trailering away, I haven't got the time, space or means to start stripping it down to find the offending pipe anymore, but as you likely know what the symptoms of this are, if you come to see the car you will see it is exactly as I describe.
- usual rust. The old pot-metal Windscreen scuttle plate has a couple of holes in it, the door bottoms are scabby so would probably need replacing rather than repairing and the wheel arches are getting a bit that way too, although I don't think the wheel arches are QUITE as bad as the door bottoms, a bit of general rust appearing around the windscreen.
- there are two cracks in the windscreen in the bottom corner on the drivers side - being totally honest they have been there since I've owned the car and have never got any worse, they also don't come up on the MOT as they aren't in the drivers eyeline.
- one of the spoiler bolts has broken off inside the spoiler so it does rattle a bit on particularly rough roads/potholes
- will be due for a service once running as it hasn't been serviced since 2019 as it was barely used during lockdown
- alternator belt has a nick in it
- driver's seat bolster has two holes in it but this is just through the leather and the seats themselves are still good and solid underneath.
- was clearly resprayed on the cheap before I got the car and that is starting to show now.
All in all this is a genuine, honest MA70 which if I had the space, time and means to sort myself I would still be running around in - it was my dream car and I still have a lot of love for it, but due to now doing up a boat to live on, it is being neglected and it's breaking my heart a bit, which is why here is the first place I have chosen to advertise it and why my name is "Save my Supra" because I genuinely believe there is so much potential to be exercised with this car and as we all know - they're becoming a rarity particularly in UK spec.
I Know that with this sort of age, mileage and spec in good - mint condition, these cars are fetching around about £12-£14k now, but I also live in the real world!
Initially (before the cutting out issue) I was going to ask £5,000 for the car, with the intention that a buyer could spend £3k ish to get the bodywork all done, and they'd have about £8k invested in a potentially £12k-ish car.
However, since the cutting out issue reared its head and taking into account the fact that I haven't properly diagnosed it or found the exact source of the vac leak, I'm now asking £3,000 for the car, that way even if it turns out to be a bigger job than anticipated (which these things often do, let's be honest!) You've got £2k for the mechanicals, £3k for the bodywork and still only have £8k invested in the car.
I will listen to serious, genuine offers from members of this club/forum as I really do want to see this car stay on the road and not end up being broken on eBay or worse, bangered at a demolition derby!
I will attach some photos as soon as I've given it a wash and a clean inside as it has been sat for about 7 weeks now so is looking a bit more tired than it perhaps deserves to!
I'm based, and the car is located in Middlewich, Cheshire.
Any questions, queries or what have you I am more than happy to answer.
Thanks for your time folks,
Andy
