Buy the VERY best you can find. A saving of £300 on a purchase price may end up costing you lots more. Try to buy from an enthusiast or at the very least one that is known about by enthusiasts. Some of the problems assosiated with MA61? Rust, Rust, Rust. It get's in behind arch extensions, sills etc

I'm on my third 2.8 Celica-Supra over a 16 year period, my latest vehicle was bought off Ebay and turned out to be one of the cleaners and most original I've ever owned, so I've seen the good bad and ugly over the years, so here's a little list...... Body & rust... 1) Tailgate, even if they look good on the outside, when you slam them shut you can hear the rust inside. 2) outer sills by back wheels, the rust then travel up under the arch trim. 3) Back of rear arch onto 1/4 sill ( inner and out ). 2) front inner wings ( box section under arch ) 4)rear inner wings and shock absorber mounting can rust( not that common ). Try buy a car with good body trim as its very expensive to replace, areas to look out for, all 4 mud flaps have a metal strip inside, if they rust away the mud flap can't keep its shape. lower sill trim rust around screw fittings. Door and side molding have metal insides and can rust and look lumpy. Trim inside car, normally very good other than drivers seat, kidney cushion wears very quickly. Engine.... Should sound very sweet as they have hydraulic tappets, any tapping on start up.....walk away !. May smoke a little on start up but as long as it clears after a run ,not a major worry. Gearbox should also be very slick. Diff can whine a little as they are limited slip. If you can find some of my early threads on here ,it shows some of my restoration work and if you need any advise or help just shout or Email me....good luck, Bob .
