i bought an ra28 celica a month or so ago and its in some need of tlc, and i am goin to give it a full restoration. i know i can do all the body work and engine work its just the spares for the engine are hard to come by. so i was wondering wether to do an engine transplant to the 2jz supra engine or wether to keep it standard. any input please as im only 17 and need all the help i can get.

You seem pretty confident that you can do bodywork and engine work and believing in yourself is a great start but for a first project it sounds like a hell of a challenge. I have no practical experience about your choice of engine but for this kind of power you will need to be considering changing the brakes. You might have steering interference problems and need to consider converting to rack and pinion: getting that exactly right (and safe) could be tricky. Unless you're a wizard with engine electronics or changing to aftermarket FI, you don't just want a bare engine; try to get a front cut from the donor car so you have ECU and all the bits. Maybe I shouldn't mention this here but I believe the Nissan SR20 engine is a good choice too! Personally I'd stick with the 18RG and the bodywork restoration but hey, if you have experienced friends, time, money and workshop facilities then sky's the limit... good luck, Al
