The Hi-ace did'nt win any prizes for design styling in the early 70s. It does not have a best side if it had its the underside, or maybe the inside. If the Celica is at one end of the Toyota style scale then the Hi-ace is at the other. Except In terms of practicality and adapabilty it has evolved. As it says in the original sales pitch it meets the demands of virtually any trade or business. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU SAW A 15 SEATER COMMUTER, with a 1600cc motor it must handle like a Century Limo but it would have done what it says on the box it would have commuted 15 people. From the basic chassis cab various coachbuilders performed their black art to produce tippers to burger vans with every variation in between. The introduction of the new Hi ace in 77 very similar mechanically but with simplified and more stylish lines increased the possibilities for its adaptability as can be seen from this Finnish ad for emergency vehicles to be continued..........................New hi-ace with worldwide variations on a theme
