That is amazing; the hours spent, the detail like making all the little stickers, electroplating and even extruding new door window surrounds from scratch. I'm guessing they even made that die for the extrusion machine especially for the project. The dashboard restoration on it's own was perfect too. I wonder who was paying? Look at every photo. Fantastic. Al

Well spotted Debs. Yes Al, a fantastic restoration. The amount of work and detail (and expense) is mind boggling. However, at the risk of being called cynical is the standard of work, assuming they wanted to bring the car back to its original condition, as Rallied, a bit "over the top." I would doubt if it started the 1985 Hong Kong - Beijing just as shiny and "better than new" as it now is.
We had TTE Celicas with us twice in the garage where I worked, when they came to Ireland in 1977. The TA22, or RA20 as they labelled it in 2 Litre 16v form. The preparation was workman like, but some distance from concours. I also have Toyota Motorsport Graphics ,85 which concentrates on Kankkunen/Gallagher winning both the Safari and Ivory Coast - both WRC. rounds. However there are also some pics. of the above car as restored, No. 3 on the Hong Kong Rally for the same pair. In one at service, work is clearly taking place on the exhaust and turbo, shown as a matt black, not chromed as in the resto. Indeed one of the "before" pics in the montage of photos suggests the same dark colour. But I,m only jealous! Presume that is the boss of the resto. company on the left beside Kankkunen - definitely not Fred Gallagher who had lost almost all of his hair even when with TTE in the eighties.
