This subject got a lot o responce on the Capri club Forum.
In the summer of 78 , I had a Hillman Avenger 1500 DL, in that horrid Beige colour,I had never heard of Toyotas,as there werent any where i came from, and at the time, the word Datsun had just appeared, and talked about by most then as Jap Crap, as back then ,if it was not Brittish, it was Crap.
In that very summer, I started to date Ir Indoors for the 1st time,Geeesooo is it that long.

Just a mere boy, 2nd year at school in 78 and I too had a 10 speed racer, unlike "auld yin" Big Al . My Dad had his second TA12 Carina by this time, and my brother a KE20 Corolla so the Toyota connection had begun

Seven years old. Probably just playing with my Evel Knievel wind-up stunt bike. (Then busy rubbing the black marks off the skirting boards.) Then I'd go and stare at my neighbours 1975 TA22 Celica and dream for a while. And that's where my whole Celica thing started...... The rest is history........ Al

What can I say I was only eight years old myself ;D I was probably mucking around in my uncles Mini clubman, I was always the one to help clean it out.
I didn't get involved with Toyota's till I met Harvey in 1987
Then it all started with a Corolla SR KE35 that Harvey bought for me, but my first Toyota on the road was a 1980 Starlet loved it still have it to this very day but sadly it lives beside my stables as a cube but it lives on as a wee table.

In the summer of 78 we changed from VW campervans to a Toyota , I wish I'd kept them now, lots trendy of people ( J Oliver ) pay silly money for them. ( Q how do you price a VW camper A count the windows and multipy by £1K ) I was working as a section engineer on the M180 in the summer of 78 long hours I remember one Irishman muckshifter saying we;ll only work half a day Saturday till 4 o'clock ! We had a Renault 5 GTL for best, and a short wheelbase petrol Landie as a company car ( OK for work but not for anything else!) The Ford Escort 1300 4 door in pale blue before that could'nt stand the pace on unmade motorways. First came across Japanese cars in 1971 when I drove a Datsun 1200 for the first time. Have had Toyotas as a company car whenever I have had the choice.

Now i will be showing my age but in the summer of 78 I was driving around in my brand new RA28 celica, i had traded in my TA22 for it. I was working hard as an apprentice mechanic and spending all my money on booze and girls. Our summer is your winter so I hope it counts.

I was riding my Raleigh Grifter around as fast as possible and smacking my nuts on the crossbar when it slipped out of gear.Got that for my 9th birthday IIRC in the summer of 78. Didn't get my first Toyota till my TA23 IN '90.

I was 14, so at a guess I was riding around on a Raliegh 5 spd Racer that was the same colour as Ford Electric Blue. As I was still at school I probably spent most of my time fishing.
