Hi
The RA23 looks great. The 2 Litre Auto only sold in very small numbers new and survivors must be very, very rare. And with an original interior you now have a bit of Celica history. Therefore in my opinion you should keep any resto. to original spec. Only possible change a set of period looking alloy wheels. A lot of 22/23 ST's were supplied new with these fitted by dealers as the steel wheels were seen as not very sporty. It's a very late registered 23 too, as by late 1977 the first TA40's were coming on sale.
I hear all the "knockers" talking about the RA23 being a dull old machine but it would be a shame to butcher an original one. Any how if you want a Celica to race around the countryside with, buy a last generation 205 GT4!

i agree, it looks nice and original, personally i would keep it that way, but it's your car afterall, i was looking at this too, i would have transplanted the 21R and 4spd auto with od out of my RA61 into it! keeps it sort of original, and uses a nice unleaded engine! if you've got £500 you can buy my RA61!! ;D

Iv gave it a lot of thought and it would be a shame to butcher it but the auto really sucks, so im going to make it manual. im also going to put a rg in that iv had for a while, Il keep it auto till the 28 is finished then probably strip it and give it new paint. Heres a pic with the new wheels
