Debs MR2 recently recommissioned after a 5-year rest as read on other threads decided to misbehave on Saturday. A few times this week it has not started first time, which is very unusual for a Toyota, so on Saturday while I was at work Debs phoned me to say she was going to Castle Douglas some 50 miles away, she phoned me and said was the MR2 ok and I said yes I checked all fluids the previous night and was good to go, famous last words!
The car decided not to start , when after the journey, then started only to refuse to start when Debs decided to head for home.
I was still at work, when I received a phone call (won't repeat on here the dialogue) and thought I better head down with some tools and a spare coil, igniter, and distributor as it must have lost its spark and would be able to effect a roadside repair.
Upon arrival I found the car had plenty of spark, but no fuel as when the return line was removed no fuel was present, so suspect fuel pump failure, so unable to effect a roadside repair a call to the AA was next. By some strange coincidence I happened to have my brothers membership card on my possession, now that was a stroke of luck!
First patrol arrives in a van after an hour and confirms, no petrol so a recovery is required. The tow truck arrives being driven by no other than the king himself, or shall we say one of the many Elvis tribute act guys who was a very nice man indeed., so in no time we were heading home with the MR2 secured to the truck bed.
Next morning I checked the fault fuel pump supply after removing the center console, no power to the pump. I had a spare ecu so thought I would substitute this first, so on removing the wiring to the ecu I removed a harness multi-plug to give me improved access and noticed two very green/blue corroded contacts in the multi-plug so reconnected everything in the off chance this was the problem, and yes we now had 12volts to the pump again. Plugged the pump back in and it fired first time.
I cleaned up the multi-plug dipping in a jar of brick acid, then neutralized the acid dipped plug in water before drying out and giving a good dose of WD40 and as the pics show plug is as good as new.

Car still running fine,so hopefully no more issues, or it will be beaten with a branch in typical John Cleese fashion ;D ;D ;D
