My Corolla ae86 has sat in my garage for 8 months. Today I thought I would get it out for a drive. It started first time but I cannot engage any gears. It seems something has seized up. I am not very technical with cars and just wondering if this could be a seized clutch. Could this be expensive to put right?

Dave The clutch plate has siezed to the flywheel by surface rust which is common if cars are laid up for long periods and heres how to fix it. Start car up and let it warm up for 30-45 mins which will let the heat get right through to the clutch area, push the car out to a safe area where you can start the car in first gear with your foot on the clutch and keep it depressed which will make the car normally kangaroo forward and it should release, you might have to do this several times.
If this fails (which has always worked with me ) another tip I read about was to warm car up as before and wedge the clutch pedal down with a piece of wood and leave car to cool overnight and the clutch should free the next morning. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
