Hi! this is the first motoring forum i've ever joined.... so i'm pretty new here but i was after some advice. I have a 1975 toyota crown sedan, australian, affectionally known as "mango", its a lovely super saloon with all the bells and whistles. I wanted to find out the best way to replace the speakers - the current ones are originals and the cones have all but decomposed. the radio etc works fine, and i'm hoping to make it that i can enjoy quality (not over-the-top) sound from the radio in my car. i'm sure the radio is fine, its just the speakers that need replacing. is there a way to pull away the back seat allowing me to get in to the speakers better? or should i try and replace them from behind in the boot? any comments queries and suggestions most helpful. thanks Rainer

Hi Rainer
Usually speakers are held in by screws from above or bolts/nuts from below. Sometimes on saloon's/sedan's where the speaker's are on a parcel shelf the speaker's have a grill that is a push fit covering the actual speaker unit with the screws underneath
We have a '72' crown but it's the estate version and won't help with the rear ones , altho on the estate they have two screws one on each side on the top and are then covered by the panel with the grill in . On ours the front speaker is in the middle of the dash which you can just about reach after you take out the radio.
When replacing , if you want to keep it looking original , you want to find some that are the same size or as in the estate , where they're oval , small enough to fit inside the widest part. So they will be covered by the original grills
