I've done Woodvale Rally with it but didn't make it to Billing as the charge light came on at Stafford so I cadged a lift with Dave Clarke in his RT40. That's now sorted so it'll be at Tatton and other shows as well as being my daily car.

The wheels suit it mate, and very wierd to see it without all the stickers!

Ian, the Corolla looks very clean. It's a shame it didn't get to Billing but if you take it to Tatton Park next weekend I'll get a chance to look at it then.

Car looks great - nice to see one of the rarer Corollas being used and improved, and a 1.6 with the rear wiper. Interesting wheels. Look like those that were a factory fit on later UK top spec. 2nd gen Celica Liftbacks, XT and GT. Only one comment. Try it with an original spec. rectangular front plate which I think will give it a wider more streamlined front view.

You've read my mind on the plate as part of this weekend's Tatton Park shopping list is a rectangular plate with a stainless surround as I'm not keen on the square one either. Also is the rear wiper unusual?? The wheels have been 'borrowed' from my red Sunchaser (as you say 2nd Gen facelift top range) but I've got another set to go on after refurb.

Rear wiper was standard on the 1.6 (TE51) as far as i know. It wasn't on the 1.2 (KE50). The spare hatch has got one i think?

Thats right and the only real external difference of the bigger engined 51 car from the 50. According to the Motor Road Test reproduced in the Club mag. Oct 2002, the interior also gained a mock wood rim steering wheel and luggage strap. Beefed up brakes too and gearbox, tyres and changed gearing from the smaller engined car. Price hike £200 above the 50, at Jan 78 to £3.15K seemed good value. Bet the world was waiting for that valuable info!

No, I love that sort of info !! I'm a closet car spotter and now I can spot a TE51 from a KE50 as unlike Gen 1 RA28's for example where silver dashes and GT badges seem to migrate onto ST variants, I can't see a lot of people going to the trouble of sourcing a woodrim wheel and a rear wiper to update their 1200 And has anyone got or know of the whereabouts of a rear load area luggage cover, as I've got the luggage straps but no cover. Was this standard or an option?

Glad that was useful. Had another look at that Oct 2002 Club mag. Peter our esteemed editor who has a vast amount of brochures etc added a further page to the road test he published, but from a Toyota brochure 7/77. I had'nt noticed it, but confirms my earlier points on differences 1200v1600. Lists "Luggage compartment cover" for both cars. Thats the easy bit. Where you are going to find one a bit more difficult!
