Good news for your 1973 manufactured Toyotas as from next April they will be tax exempt as this years budget moved the cut off by one year. I hope the government continue to review the historic tax cut off on an annual basis.
Most DVLA local offices I would assume will accept probably any vehicle registered within the first 8-10 weeks of 1974 would have been manufactured in 1973.

we are lucky here in Ireland as we have the rolling 30 year rule when a car becomes 30 years old on its reg date it qualifies for vintage & vetern tax @ €56 per year, this means that some ae86s will be hitting that bracket soon i reckon the stupid yokes we have for government will close it down but fingers crossed it will keep rolling ;D my ta23 & 131 sport both cost only 56 euro tax!

Thanks Harvey and Nick
Interesting stuff - the 131 looks great and much work since I last saw it. Will it out perform the 23 GT!
I know the excise rates in Eire have always been different to the UK, which of course includes N Ireland. Back in the eighties and nineties when the UK rate was largely a flat rate for all cars the Eire rate was more spread and engine capacity linked. However I think Eire is now more old car friendly on execise (tax disc) duty and also for MOT concessions on older kit - am I right Nick? Personally I believe the stories we get that this, that or the other latest MOT directive is EU demanded is largely nonsense. As I understand it the annual MOT on cars in the UK, but bi annual in Germany and France (every two years), while in N Ireland we still await the introduction, else where in the UK of the elimination of MOT tests for pre 1960 s - no help of course for TEC members.
Back to Harveys point - any move to get the tax exempt date rolling forward again is welcome. But your point on manufacturing date more so. I always thought the definitive date for tax exempt and also MOT related matters like emissions, was date of original reg. If you are right I can maybe claim my Oct 1975 reg TA22 GT was manufactured 1974 - after all, back then they took some time to get here from Japan and as they didn't sell very well new against the much cheaper ST, probably lay around TGB or the dealer pre sale.
Finlly Harvey I have a recollection from my dealership days that a generally accepted build date, was date stamped on road wheels. Any thoughts on that and could we use it with DVA if they are the original wheels!

Hi Denis we have the rolling 30 year rule for €56 annual vintage & vetern tax & all cars registered up until 31 december 1979 are nct exempt, as for the Fiat its a little rocket i have fitted corolla AE86 rear axle with lsd & disc brakes so with the 4.3:1 final drive leaves the car very quick up through the gears also fitted st202 master cylinder & servo so have really good brakes, the new rebuilt engine is almost run in so oil change & test out that diff lol!
