got in our workshop Toyota crown 1980 2.8 only has a strong smell of fuel when going up hill and on motorway no signs of fuel leak please can you help thanks

Leak would be my first thought if the fuel mixture ratio is OK, you don't need much of a leak to smell fuel.

perhaps as its only going up hill why not check the tank has not got a leak,ie fuel going to back of tank

Leak would be my first thought if the fuel mixture ratio is OK, you don't need much of a leak to smell fuel. Older toyota's suffer from fuel filler pipes rusting away ...IF the crown has a pipe under the rear wing take a look for fuel stains.

we have had the fuel tank out . fuel lines out or pressure tested found nothing you know the fuel pressure should be were are thinking it may be putting to much into the fuel system in the engine bay thanks
