Hi there I am going to repaint my white BJ 40 in the summer. I all ways thought that the white was the least attractive colour for the FJ/BJ and i am considering painting it a different colour. I will chose a colour from the chart for the product year of 83 and the roof will be repainted white. My question is would repainting in a different colour from original greatly affect the price when I come to sell it?

I am afraid with all old collectible toyotas of which is one originality is the name of the game , so a colour change is likely to affect its value particularly if the outside is done and the engine compartment left to reduce the work. As the years go by these type of early nap vehicles have become more sort after by the collectors , so if you want to maintain its value for the future original colour is the only way to go. I have some painters in Birmingham who paint my early cars and do a lot of others , so if you want some details give me a call, they are competitively priced . Cheers Malcolm 07975718146

Interesting subject Midland. Colour no doubt a matter of personal opinion, but at the same time its generally accepted that certain models suit certain colours. The early Lexus LS 400 for example, needs to be in a dark colour and not attractive in white. On the other hand sporty models often look good in white and some of the latest GRMN models, only being produced in white.
However on balance take Malcolm's advice and retain originality, so keep it white. Besides, as he suggests to do a total colour change properly - inner engine bay and other interior surfaces, trim and glass out etc. horrendously expensive. And when we see a Land Cruiser of any variety, in foreign parts, on the TV News, almost always white.
