Hey all, I'm selling my 5 speed and wanted to provide some info here, for anyone who is interested.
I purchased the truck in 2011 in Los Angeles, in preparation for moving home to Chicago - as a secondary car. At that time I had a specialist do all sorts of preventive work (noticeable amount of money), and I have the service records + service records for maintenance since (e.g. timing belt, water pump, etc). They used OEM parts to the best of their ability, for example apparently Bosch makes certain parts for Toyota (at least back then). I also put in a touch screen, reverse camera, and speakers (and a mic which currently doesn't work). There has also been work done on the clutch.
Garage kept - this is not my primary car and I pay $250 for parking (as a secondary SUV) which is the main reason for selling. Currently the car is parked at my father's home, in Highland Park.
I'd certainly consider matching the price for a comparison active listing or comp, listed on BaT etc. Please present anything you deem suitable. What I'd be looking for in a comparison sale:
5 Speed
4x4
Similar miles (less than 130k miles or within proximity)
Major items replaced (timing belt, water pump, etc.)
Similar exterior/interior condition
Currently the most relevant comp I've been able to find is on bringatrailer, sold this month (March 2020) for $18,500, which is incredible (I'd take half that). It is essentially the same vehicle, very similar miles. Mine has more work done. Theirs has zero rust and is a 10/10, whereas mine despite having been garaged does have the reasonable amount of rust (under the car) however is in incredible shape / I get comments all the time. There are also a handful of comps on bringatrailer etc. which are priced above what I'm asking, despite my car being equal or better.
In terms of rust, the first two years back in Chicago my apartment building had a big garage without heating. I've also had periods (week etc.) where I travel to Michigan and have left the car outside. I don't think the rust is an issue by any means / nothing like a Midwest car left outside.
I welcome anyone to a full inspection, or to provide any further information upon request. Not sure how this all works, if you can message me directly considering my profile is new...but feel free to provide your info and I'll email you the service records, pictures etc. I'd prefer to speak on the phone with real buyers, if you're comfortable providing your phone # (not necessary)
