It is with great sadness to be writing this post. Our dear friend “Big Al” Alan Duncan lost his battle with cancer in the early hours of this morning. Alan was a true Toyota man, with a passion for Celicas,he drove them in his youth and joined the TEC about 20 odd years ago,and bought my white TA22 flatlight. His drive and determination certainly helped push the classic Toyota scene forward.Thoughts and prayers to Alans family. Will be sorely missed by everyone at TEC and his local classic car clubs in Scotland.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Alan but I know he was held in high regard amongst fellow TEC members. Thoughts and prayers are with his family at this sad time.

Very sad to hear the news of Big Al's passing. I got to know him quite well when Irish TEC Members would occasionally cross to join their Scottish friends for drives in South West Scotland. The last time I met him was in May 2021 when he and Cath organised so well, a lovely run down to the Mull of Galloway Lighthouse, finishing at the Harbour in Portpatrick. Just a month later he was diagnosed with his serious illness.
How he battled it for almost two years was an example and inspiration to all of us. His frequent posts on the Club Facebook seemed so matter of fact, bright and cheerful, often illustrated with his superb photos, past and present. He was of course a great early gen One Celica enthusiasts. But not for him the over restored, highly polished, sit back and admire it variety. He believed in using his cars as Toyota intended it. Our Sports Car to be used and driven as one.
Highlight was a few years ago driving his yellow model from Glasgow to Monte Carlo on a Winter Challenge Rally. Some pics also recently posted. Driving over the mountains, in an almost fifty year old Celica in the early hours of a January night, on snow and ice, not for the faint hearted. But that was Big Al - a real Toyota man and battler to the end.
