In the late 70's and early 80's Magazines such as HOT CAR and Street Machine used to do a section called 'Motorvation' and 'Profile'. Unfortunatley what looked good on paper didn't always work in reality (or wasn't really possible). Either way these 'ideas' of what to do with a Celica I thought may be of interest /'of a time' Oh well ;D

Nice one Twin Cam. Any Crown pics in those mags, or was it too grandaddy!?

No pics amongst my achives of a modified crown but I would NOT say a crown is too 'Grandady' for customising ...

I remember a Crown Coupe with custom paint and chrome wheels (I think) in the readers cars bit of Street Machine, early 80's. Here's a picture of an RA28 on the front cover of Street Machine Nov 81. i40.photobucket.com/albums/e234/alfazer/celica.jpgI seen the same car for real a few years later on the Isle of Man; same bodywork, different paint. Owner was called Andy Talbot. Al

Just had a thought that custom Celica is in a 1981 SM Mag yet number plate is in effect a 1983 A reg

Hi all
The A reg does not necessarily mean 1983 in the Isle of Man. Now I have'nt been there for maybe 20 years but back then I think they all ended in MAN and the prefix letter definately bore no relationship to the mainland GB prefix system. In fact I don't think the prefix letters related to any particular year. Maybe they just kept recycling the registrations as the cars were scrapped?
I don't know if they still follow the same pattern. (Now that I'm all growed up I hope to go back soon. I hear there's talk of them introducing a national speed limit so I'd love to take my bike over before that happens!)
I'll have a look through the old SM collection to find that Crown. My scanner's down and I left the camera in work so it'll be a day or two before you see a pic.

Okay, here we go. Three photos 1. SM Aug 83 Crown coupe. Cool pipes and I hope you can see the twin aerials at the rear. Can't work out the art theme? 2. a description of above Crown, owners name, etc. 3. SM July 82, Ta22 from Guernsey. (Very appropriate reg. too! Think) Enjoy. AL
