hi, i had a 2T-G assembled by a friend of mine, and today whilst fitting the valve cover gasket i noticed that the upper chain looked slack, very slack the engine is sitting on my garage floor, so i spun it around by hand, now first of all, it was very difficult to turn over, the upper chain got tighter, but then slackened off as it made another revolution, becoming easier to turn over by hand, i'm thinking this can't be normal? i have very little experience with the twin cams, which is why i got it assembled by someone else, i have the green manual but it says very little on this.

I dont think you have a problem if the valves have been timed correctly and the chain is the correct length.
The upper chain tensioner (off the carb side of the head) has probably not been pressurised so the chain is slack.
The resistance you felt is the engine compression.
Get the chain tensioner pressurised. Should solve your problem.

it was primed with oil, but not adjusted properly, so i adjusted it, and it pissed oil out the end... faulty o-ring? i hear thats common on these tensioners.

Yes, par for the course. 30 year old rubber.
Time to find a friendly rubber "O" ring supplier to get the right size replacement.
