I have a '77 Celica ST liftback, it's had the engine and gearbox from a GT put in. This is great, but the cornering is severely hampered by the ST diff. I have a spare reconditioned diff which is supposedly from a GT. My questions are; - Is it possible to tell if it's a LSD by looking at it
- Will it fit inside the original ST housing
Cheers, Sean

The easiest way is to post an image of your diff here- we'll soon be able to tell.

Have a look at these photos comparing diff casings. Might be of use to you. In fact while you're at it, look through all 11 pages of the post. Some fantastic stuff in there, especially the suspension with coilovers and adjustable everything. Surely the most exciting Celica build in the UK at the moment? (Sometimes these links don't work 'cause they are too long. If so, just go to the retro rides forum and find the Celica V* thread on the readers rides section.) retrorides.proboards86.com/index.cgi?board=readersrides&action=display&thread=35309&page=9

This is the reconditioned internals that I have indoors: I also have a GT axle rotting away in the back garden it's got the smallest anti roll bar I've ever seen, and the brakes on one side have been robbed, but has all it's internals. Any ideas if this'll fit into my existing ST axle? I know it would seem easier to just fit the GT axle in the garden, but this looks as though the shock mounts have been snapped off, and I'm assuming my ST drum brakes would be smaller than the missing GT brakes.

yes you are better to use the axle in the garden, the shock mounts are still on it,its just the shocks that have been cut off . the rear brakes should be the same, although it would pay to replace the drums and shoes anyway, the anti roll bar was not standard on the 28 so that must be a mod

Bonus! Just had another rummage around out there, and found a pair of half shafts too!

And I need to get it ready for a trip to Germany coming up!
